KNOTENPUNKT Urban Art Festival Hamburg

Every year Hamburg is transformed into an international hub of urban and street art. In the past years, KNOTENPUNKT (lit. 'nodal point') drew more than 10,000 visitors per edition. In 2017, the urban art festival traveled to Berlin, Vienna, Cologne and Leipzig before returning home to Hamburg.

At Affenfaust Gallery in St. Pauli, more than 40 international artists exhibit their works on a floor space of 1,000 sqm. Contemporary art exhibitions, temporary installations and performances make up the varied programme. KNOTENPUNKT has become especially known for the enormous murals created during the festival. Since 2013, local and international artists, including Darko Caramello and NYCHOS, have adorned the streets of Hamburg with more than 20 giant art works.

For the 2017 edition of KNOTENPUNKT, Madrid-based artist SpY created a public, 13-metre-long chewing gum wall at Lattenplatz (U3 Feldstraße). More than 30,000 chewing gum balls spelled out the word ‘DEMOCRACY’.
