Walking Route: Art

Start at Jungfernstieg by the Alster lake and follow the banks until you reach the vast Kunsthalle art gallery. See a large collection of German and other European art from the past seven centuries including a great collection of modern works. Along the north side of Hamburg Central Station you'll pass by the Ohnsorg and Schauspielhaus theatres until you reach the Museum of Arts and Crafts (Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe). It is considered one of the leading museums in Europe for applied arts.

Cross and then follow the train tracks until you reach the corner of Steintorwall and Amsinckstraße, where the Kunstverein art gallery focuses on modern art. From here it is only a short walk across the street to another absolute highlight of the Hamburg art scene: the former market halls of Deichtorhallen museum host regular exhibitions on modern art, photography and design. Your final destination is at Meßberg U1-station, where you can see Hamburg's UNESCO World Heritage Sites Speicherstadt and Chilehaus.
