Dance workshops, sports and music – summer in the HafenCity neighbourhoods! For 18 years, the elbsommer (lit: ‘Elbe summer’) offers a wide array of free cultural activities for visitors and residents of all ages. All event sites are located at the squares, parks and river walks of the HafenCity quarters and adjacent neighbourhoods.

Summer in the HafenCity
Part and parcel of Hamburg’s summer events, the elbsommer event series draws visitors from all areas of the Hamburg metropolitan region to the Elbe river banks, transforming squares, parks and river walks into stages with that special summer flair. This year, cultural associations from the Rothenburgsort neighbourhood will also take part in the event.
Another new feature of 2023 is the introduction of the Kirchenpauerkai promenade. On a 560-metre stretch of park-like area, the quarter offers access to the Elbe bank and river walk for the first time. It is also an important link between the neighbourhoods east and south of the Elbbrücken bridges, the western parts of the HafenCity quarter and the city centre.
A host of new and established partners offer cultural, entertainment and sporting events every weekend from June through August. There is also a diverse programme for kids and families. Thanks to the great number of partners, this year will see another successful and colourful elbsommer festival!
Dance workshops, sports and music
Whether tango dance workshop, puzzle hunt for kids, small concerts or poetry readings – everyone will find their favourite event. The schedule is rounded out by a model construction site and history walks around the neighbourhood. A total of 17 partners contribute to the elbsommer programme, hosted by HafenCity Hamburg GmbH and supported by 12 local companies and organisations.
The events take place on the summer weekends from 3 June till 27 August 2023. All events are non-profit and admission is always free. All events are barrier-free and accessible.
