LGBTQI Support & Involvement in Hamburg

Hamburg's various LGBTQI communities and organisations are wonderful resources offering support to those who need it, as well as volunteer opportunities to those looking to give back.

Located near Central Station, the LGBTQI community centre Hein & Fiete provides  counselling and education focused on safe sex and HIV prevention. AIDS-Hilfe Hamburg, located at Lange Reihe 30 ─ 32, provides testing and counselling, as well as a safe meeting place for people living with HIV or AIDS. CASA Blanca provides multilingual support and counselling, as well as free STI-testing in Altona.

The Magnus Hirschfeld Centre (MHC) is a long-standing LGBTQI support centre in Winterhude. Besides hosting more than 30 clubs and self-help groups, MHC offers professional help with questions relating to gender identity and sexual orientation.  With its lively cultural programme, the café provides a social meeting point.

Intervention strives for political recognition for lesbian girls and women, organises lectures and offers a space for social and self-help groups. Intervention’s centre in Karoviertel quarter is also the location of JungLesbenZentrum, which offers a safe space for politically-minded female-identified young people up to 25 years.

LGBTQI Christians can find like-minded individuals at several church communities. The largest is MCC Hamburg, which holds services at Steindamm 87 in St. Georg every Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Especially for LGBTQI refugees, there is the Queer Refugees meeting at Centro Sociale on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m, while students can get involved in university politics and meet other LGBTQI students with Queer Referat Hamburg.
