Detailed description

If you are under 18 and wish to begin an apprenticeship or other employment, you must undergo a medical examination. This examination ensures that you are medically fit for the profession. The costs are covered by the State of Hamburg if you present a certificate of eligibility for the examination. You can apply for this certificate at the relevant office.

Prerequisites

  • They are under 18 years old
  • They are registered as having their main residence in Hamburg.
  • You want to start an employment relationship that is not minor and is expected to last longer than 2 months.

Documents required

To apply in person, you will need a valid identification document. If you are being represented when applying, the representative must present their own valid identification document as well as a valid identification document of the applicant.

Please note

You decide which doctor you want to be examined by. You must bring the examination authorization certificate with you to your appointment and present it to the doctor. Only with this examination authorization certificate can the doctor's office bill the responsible authority. After the examination, you will receive a medical certificate. You must present this medical certificate to your employer.

Deadlines

You must undergo a medical examination before starting work and commence employment no later than 14 months after the examination.

  • You can arrange a personal appointment online or by phone.
    • You can also be represented at the appointment by a legal representative (for example, a parent).
  • At the appointment you will apply for the examination authorization certificate.
  • The responsible authority will examine your application.
  • You will receive the examination authorization certificate directly at the appointment.
