Apply for approval for the operation of an X-ray facility or the significant change in the operation for materials testing
If you want to operate an X-ray facility for materials testing, you need a permit.
You also need a permit for the significant change to an X-ray device for material testing.
Important notes
Prerequisites
You can only apply for a license if you are responsible for radiation protection according to § 69 StrlSchG.
A permit can be granted if the permit requirements according to Section 13 of the Radiation Protection Act are met.

- Required documents according to Annex 2 Part C of the Radiation Protection Act

Procedure & Fees
Procedure
- You fill out the relevant application form completely and send it to the Office for Occupational Safety and Health - Department for Radiation Protection, including the documents listed in the application.
- If the documents or information required for processing are incomplete, you will be contacted by the administrative department.
- If the requirements for approval are met or not met, you will receive an approval or rejection notice.
- The approval will be sent to you by email or by post.
- The notice of fees will usually be sent to you later.
- Once the permit has been obtained, you may use the X-ray facility.
Processing time
Usually 4 weeks after receipt of the application.
Remark for further information on the processing time:
- If documents have to be requested several times, the procedure can be extended.
Fees
The granting or refusal of approval is subject to a fee. The fees are calculated according to the time spent in accordance with § 2 of the fee schedule.

Objections to the decision can be lodged with the competent authority/department within one month of notification. The unsuccessful objection procedure is subject to a fee.
