Service description

The disposal of waste and thus also of waste paper from private households is the task of the public waste disposal authorities. In the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Hamburg city cleaning department is responsible for this.
In addition to the blue waste paper bins, there are almost 2,300 public depot containers available at around 900 locations for the disposal of waste paper - many of them with an extra large opening. Out of consideration for possible residents, please note the drop-in times stated on the containers (weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and keep the pitches clean.
The waste paper bin includes:

  • (Window) envelopes, notes, calendars
  • Newspapers, magazines, exercise books, books, prospectuses, catalogues
  • cartons, boxes
  • paper bags
  • Wrapping paper
  • corrugated cardboard
  • cigarette boxes
  • Paper/cardboard labels
  • all packaging made of paper and cardboard (except cement sacks)
The easiest way is to collect paper, cardboard and cartons in the blue paper bin, which has been introduced as a standard bin everywhere in Hamburg, where local conditions make it possible.
In addition to bulky waste, green waste, recyclables and problematic materials, you can of course also dispose of waste paper at the twelve recycling yards run by the city cleaning department. More detailed regulations for the disposal of waste paper can be found in the Waste Bin Utilization Ordinance and in the Schedule of Fees.
