The Helmut Schmidt University is one of the two universities in Germany, which serve the scientific study and the academic education of officers. It increases the attractiveness of the officer profession and is at the same time a source of inspiration and service provider for the armed forces. The Helmut Schmidt University performs its tasks through research, teaching and further education in the autonomy guaranteed by the sponsor and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. With its research infrastructure, it strengthens Hamburg as a science location. It further develops the range of courses and further education according to the state of the art as well as the need for executives in the military, business and society. In doing so, it emphasizes and opens up opportunities for the interdisciplinarity of natural and engineering sciences as well as economics, humanities and social sciences in research and teaching, also in order to sharpen the profile of graduates in national and international competition
