The Academy of Police Hamburg offers two courses of study that have the same content in the basic course - the Police course (public security) and the Security Management course (private security). Both dual study programs end after three years with the internationally recognized Bachelor of Arts. An exception is the two-year degree course for promotion officers who have already worked in the middle service for the Hamburg police. Despite the joint basic studies, prospective students have to decide when applying whether they want to work as civil servants for the Hamburg police after their studies or whether they want to go into the private sector as security managers.
