Information can only be obtained from the local vehicle register if there is a need to pursue legal claims for traffic-related reasons. A legitimate interest in connection with road traffic must be proven (e.g. after a traffic accident, the injured party wants to find out about the other party’s liability insurance).
The Landesbetrieb Verkehr can provide information for Hamburg vehicles with official license plates and transfer license plates (short-term license plates and red license plates). Insurance numbers are not stored in the local vehicle register. Please refer to the central call of the car insurers.
Important notes
Prerequisites
Legitimate interest in connection with road traffic (e.g. after a traffic accident, the injured party wants to find out about the other party’s liability insurance; see Section 39 of the Road Traffic Act [StVG]).
Documents required
In the case of a personal interview, the person making the request must be able to identify himself and have previously set the request in writing.
