Point of single contact for professional recognition, veterinarian

Prerequisites

The license to practice medicine is tied to various prerequisites relating to a successful degree, personal and health suitability for practicing the profession, as well as sufficient German language skills.

Documents required

• Birth certificate / certificate of descent or extract from the parents' family book (certified copy)
• if the name used differs from the one on the birth certificate: Proof of a name change (e.g. marriage certificate) (certified copy)
• valid proof of identity (e.g. passport) (certified copy)
• Complete and personally signed curriculum vitae (tabular and chronological list of the completed training courses and the jobs performed, specifying the periods (month / year) and enclosing the relevant evidence)
• medical certificate (original)
  • This must be issued and signed by a general practitioner or internist doctor established in Germany or another signatory to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or in Switzerland and stamped with a practice or clinic stamp. If the practice or clinic stamp is not available in German, a German translation of the stamp is required.
  • It must not be older than three months when it is submitted.
• Certificate of good conduct of document type "O"
  • If the applicant has already stayed in Germany for more than six months in the past or has or still has a place of residence in Germany.
  • In Germany, this must be applied for at the registration office in the place of residence, stating the purpose "Approval as a veterinarian". The Federal Office of Justice sends the certificate of good conduct directly to the competent authority.
• Proof of impunity
  • Submission of extracts from criminal records from all countries in which the applicant has resided for more than six months in the past five years.
  • The excerpts from the criminal record may not be older than three months when the application is received.
  • A certified copy of these extracts must be submitted.
  • In addition, a certificate of good conduct of document type "O" if the applicant has already stayed in Germany for more than six months in the past or had or still has a place of residence in Germany (see above).
  • In Germany, this must be applied for at the registration office at your place of residence.
  • The certificate of good conduct is sent directly to the competent authority.
  • The certificate of good conduct must not be older than three months when the application is received.
• Evidence of your completed training (certified copy)
  • Proof of training such as B. Diploma
  • If necessary, further country-specific certificates
  • Overview of the subjects completed during the course with the number of hours and grades
  • if applicable, proof of completed compulsory internships
• Proof of entitlement to practice the medical profession in the country of training and / or country of origin (certified copy)
• If necessary, a certificate of good standing (certified copy) (Required from all countries in which the medical profession has already been practiced in the last five years. This certificate must not be older than three months when the application is received.)
• If applicable, evidence of work in the medical profession (e.g. work and training certificates) (in the original or as a certified copy)
• possibly curriculum / study book (original)
• Proof of required German language skills (certified copy) (The certificate from an ALTE-certified language institute at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (GER) must be submitted.)

• Dates only on request
• In the case of the recognition of qualifications that were not obtained in the EU, proof of a necessary level of knowledge test is usually required - the requirements must be clarified in consultation with the responsible body
• All documents should be submitted in full before an appointment - for degrees outside the EU, it is advisable to initially only send a translation of the degree so that the fundamental eligibility for recognition can be checked in advance
• In principle, a recognition test only takes place if the veterinary activity is to be carried out in Hamburg

Deadlines

The application for a license to practice medicine is not bound to any deadline.

Fees

Approval as a veterinarian according to § 4 paragraph 1 or 2 of the Federal Veterinary Code is subject to a fee and is expense-related according to Annex Part I of the fee schedule for public consumer protection (GebOöV) (here tariff number 6.1) within the fee range of 125.00-360 €.00 billed.
