The Federal Finance Directorate (BFD) North is subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Finance as an intermediate authority. It fulfills a bridging and support function. It is divided into two departments. The Central Specialist Unit, ZF, has nationwide responsibility for general customs law. The Legal and Technical Supervision Department, RF, is regionally responsible for the 8 main customs offices and their offices located in the district. The district of BFD Nord includes the federal states of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and, from the state of Lower Saxony, the district of the main customs office in Oldenburg.
