Waste and Disposal - Waste Officers
A waste officer or company officer for waste advises the entrepreneur or operator of a plant and the employees in all matters that have to do with recycling management and waste disposal in the company.
Important notes
Prerequisites
The waste officer must provide the following evidence prior to the order:
- professional qualification
- at least one year of practical experience
- regular participation in relevant courses
- reliability
Documents required
- Documents to prove the technical qualification. More information can be found in § 9 AbfBeauftrV. The following documents are required:
- proof of professional qualification
- proof of one year of practical experience as well as
- a certificate of participation in the most recently attended recognized course for waste management officers
- Documents confirming reliability. For this purpose, a police clearance certificate not older than six months must be submitted (§ 8 AbfBeauftrV).

Duties and rights of a waste officer
The basics for a waste officer are regulated in § 59 KrWG (Circular Economy Act), the rights and obligations result from § 60 KrWG.
One of the tasks of a waste officer is to monitor the type and quality of the waste produced and its path from generation to disposal. He monitors compliance with legal regulations and official requirements in the company.
In addition to these obligations, there are also various rights. For example, the waste officer has the right to speak to management, he has the right to support in fulfilling his duties and he must be able to take part in the necessary training courses.
Deadlines
A waste officer must attend a corresponding recognized course every two years.

Procedure
If a company regularly appoints a waste officer, nothing further needs to be done.
You can apply for:
- Appointment of a non-employee waste officer (§ 5),
- Performance of the task by a waste officer in your group (§ 6) or
- the exemption from the obligation to appoint a waste officer (§ 7).
Processing time
The processing time is very short if the documents are complete.

Fees are based on the environmental fee schedule numbers: 2.3.28; 2.3.29; 2.3.30
