Apply for a rental car permit

Prerequisites

They can ensure the safety and efficiency of the company.

There is no evidence of personal inadmissibility against you.

You are professionally qualified.

You as the applicant and the entrepreneurs commissioned by you to carry out transport services have your place of business or branch within the meaning of commercial law in Germany.

If you are a legal entity under public law, the requirements are deemed to be met.

Documents required

• Application for initial approval or application for renewal of approval
• Proof of the professional suitability of the applicant or the person appointed to manage the business by means of a certificate issued by the Chamber of Commerce (equity certificate/additional certificate)
• Certificate in tax matters:
  • the tax office
• Certificate of clearance:
  • the community
  • the social insurance provider (health insurance)
  • the professional association BG Verkehr
• certificate of good conduct
• extract from the Central Trade Register
• Extract from the Driving Aptitude Register (FAER)

General documents:

• Vehicle list, if applicable rental vehicles with rental contract or leasing list
• Vehicle registration document with the registration type rental car
• business registration

Please note

The application can be submitted in writing or online.

If the decision is positive, you will receive approval; if the decision is rejected, a notice will be issued stating the reasons.

It is advisable to submit the application well in advance of the planned start of the business.

Additional information on the requirements and details of the procedure can be obtained from the responsible transport authority or when submitting the application.

The evidence required for your application is required from the company, the legal representative and the person appointed to manage the business/traffic management.

If the competent authority does not decide on the application within the statutory period, the approval is deemed to have been granted.

Deadlines only begin to run once a decision-making application has been submitted.

The processing time may depend, among other things, on whether all documents relevant to the decision have been submitted or whether additional requests for documents are necessary.

The fees for issuing a rental car permit depend on the number of vehicles requested. The processing fee depends on the administrative effort involved.

You can pay with a Girocard or, if necessary, a classic credit card.

Payment by invoice is possible.

Deadlines

The documents required for your application must not be older than 3 months.


If your application is complete, a decision must be made on the application within a period of 3 months.


The deadline can be extended by 3 months if necessary.


The term of your permit is a maximum of 5 years.

Procedure

Submit an appropriate application to the transport authority responsible for you and attach all necessary documents to the application.

The authority will review and process your application.

If your application is positive, you will receive a notification about the initial or renewed rental car permit.

Processing time

The processing time is usually 2 weeks to 3 months.

Fees

The maximum fee is EUR 500.00.
