Apply for a rental car permit

Prerequisites

• The safety and efficiency of the company is guaranteed.
• There are no facts showing that the applicant is unreliable as an entrepreneur or that the person appointed to manage the business is unreliable.
• The applicant as an entrepreneur or the person appointed to manage the business is technically suitable (certificate from the Chamber of Commerce).
• The applicant and the entrepreneurs commissioned by him or her to carry out transport services have their place of business or their branch within the meaning of commercial law in Germany.
• In the case of legal entities under public law, the requirements are deemed to have been met.

Documents required

• Formal application: Application for an initial permit or an application for a renewed permit
• Proof of the professional suitability of the applicant or the person appointed to manage the business through a certificate issued by the Chamber of Commerce: equity certificate/additional certificate (form of the professional access regulation for road passenger transport -PBZugV), not older than 3 months
• Certificate in tax matters from the tax office, clearance certificate from the municipality, the social security institution (health insurance) and the professional association BG Verkehr, not older than 3 months (from the company, the legal representative and the person appointed to manage the business/traffic management)
• Certificate of good conduct for submission to the authorities
• Excerpt from the commercial register
• Excerpt from the driving aptitude register (FAER)

General documents:

• Vehicle list, if necessary rental vehicles with rental agreement or leasing list
• Vehicle registration document with the rental car registration type
• business registration

Remark:


Deadlines only begin to run when an application capable of making a decision is submitted. If the application is complete, a decision on the application must be made within a period of 3 months. The deadline can be extended by three months if necessary.

Procedure

In order to obtain a permit for the commercial transport of people with rental cars, proceed as follows:

• Submit a corresponding application to the traffic authority responsible for you and enclose all the necessary documents with the application.
• The authority processes your application.
• You will receive notification of the initial issue or re-issue of a rental car permit.

Duration: 2 weeks to 3 months

The fees for issuing a car rental permit depend on the number of vehicles applied for. The maximum fee is EUR 500.00.
