Apply for a driving license or driving permit for motorcycles of classes AM, A1, A2 or A

Prerequisites

• Her main residence is in Hamburg.
• You have reached the required minimum age (the application can be submitted six months before reaching the minimum age):
  • Class AM: 15 years.
  • Class A1: 16 years.
  • Class A2: 18 years.
  • Class A: 24 years for motorcycles for the first time when taking the motorcycle driving training, 21 years for three-wheeled motor vehicles with a power of more than 15 kW, 20 years for motorcycles with a previous possession of class A2 for at least 2 years.

Documents required

• valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current registration confirmation
• biometric passport photo (35x45 mm)
• Certificate of participation in a first aid training course
• Eye test (not older than 2 years)
• If the application is not submitted via the driving school: appointment confirmation

Please note

The LBV-Mitte and LBV-Nord driving license offices are responsible for issuing driving licenses.
If you have already held a class A1 driving license for two years, you can obtain a class A2 driving license without taking a theory test. You only need to take the practical test.

If you have already held a class A2 driving license for two years, you can obtain a class A driving license without taking a theory test. You only need to take the practical test.

Deadlines

You can submit your application at the earliest six months before reaching the minimum age.

Procedure

• You choose a driving school and register.
• Typically, you submit all the necessary documents for applying for your driver's license to the driving school. Your driving school will then take care of everything necessary and inform you about the next steps in your driver training.
• Your driving license will usually be issued to you immediately after you pass the practical test.

Processing time

The processing takes place parallel to your driving school training.
