Apply for a gun ownership card for a shooting club

Prerequisites

• Permission to purchase and possess weapons and ammunition: Issuance of a weapon ownership card (WBK) for shooting clubs
• Requirements:
  • Sports operations in accordance with approved sports regulations
  • Registered in the association register
  • Appointment of a responsible person
  • Responsible person:
    • No criminal record (reliability)
    • No incapacity, mental illness or drug addiction (personal suitability)
    • Knowledge of firearms regulations
    • safe handling of weapons and ammunition
    • Firearm shooting skills (may not be necessary if only weapons that cannot fire are collected)
  • Safe storage
• Unauthorized handling of weapons and ammunition will result in a fine or imprisonment
• Responsible: Weapons Authority

Documents required

• Identity card or passport (copy)
• Extract from the association register
• Proof of expertise (responsible person)
• Proof of storage, for example purchase agreement for a gun safe and/or photos of the gun safe and location
• If under 25 years of age: specialist medical or psychological certificate on the mental suitability of the responsible person

Procedure

You must apply for permission to purchase and possess weapons and/or ammunition that require a permit from the responsible weapons authority. Submit the application along with the required documents.

The weapons authority will grant you permission if you meet the necessary requirements.

If you want to purchase firearms that require a permit for a shooting club, you can request that the firearm ownership card required for this not be issued to you personally, but to the club.

You must appoint a responsible person for this who must be reliable in terms of weapons law, personally suitable and who can demonstrate the necessary expertise. This person does not have to be authorized to represent you, i.e., for example, not a member of the board. If the responsible person leaves the association, you must immediately inform the responsible authority and appoint a new responsible person within 2 weeks. Otherwise, the responsible authority will revoke your permission to purchase and possess weapons (weapon ownership card).

It is recommended that you find out more about the gun law regulations before submitting your application.

In order to obtain permission to purchase and possess weapons and ammunition that require a permit, the club must be a member of a recognized shooting sports association and be registered in the club register. You must also provide evidence of the safe storage of weapons and ammunition. The responsible person you nominate must

• have the appropriate age and
• reliable in terms of weapons law and,
• be personally suitable as well
• their expertise in handling weapons and ammunition
