Extend European firearms passport

Prerequisites

You must have a valid permit for the acquisition and possession of weapons (e.g. weapon ownership card - WBK), which is registered in the European Firearms Passport.

Please note

To fill out the application more quickly, you can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR-ID):

• Your personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for personal information
• the permit NWR ID for the weapons law permit (E-NWR ID)
• the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T NWR ID).

You will receive the NWR IDs upon request from the responsible weapons authority.

Procedure

You must extend the European firearms passport at the responsible weapons authority. Submit the application along with the required documents.

The weapons authority will extend the European firearms passport if you meet the necessary requirements.

The European firearms passport enables holders of firearms ownership cards to temporarily take weapons and ammunition with them when visiting another EU member state or Schengen state. It only enables short-term, cross-border transport of your weapons for a purpose that is covered by your weapons law needs (e.g. hunting trip, participation in a shooting event).
The European Firearms Pass is valid for 5 years and you can have it renewed twice for 5 years each.
You are allowed to take the appropriate ammunition for the registered weapons, but only as much as you are likely to need. Experience has shown that as a hunter you need less ammunition than as a target shooter.
Not every weapon that is registered in the European Firearms Passport can automatically be taken abroad. The respective firearms regulations of the host state and all states that are being passed through must be observed. Appropriate permits from countries to be visited must be obtained in advance. Before your trip, please inform yourself comprehensively about the firearms regulations applicable in each country. When you travel, in addition to the European Firearms Passport, you must carry an identification document with you as well as the firearms ownership card in which the weapons are registered. It is also advisable to carry an invitation from the hunting club or the hunting license for the country or confirmation of registration for a shooting competition.
The European Firearms Passport is not an import document and does not authorize you to permanently transport firearms or ammunition abroad. You need other permissions for this.
