Apply for a red gun ownership card for gun or ammunition collectors

Prerequisites

• Permission to acquire and possess weapons and ammunition: Issuance of a red weapon ownership card (WBK) for weapons or ammunition collectors
• WBK red is issued for an unlimited period
• Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 25 years
  • reasonable reason, such as the cultural and historical value of the collection (need)
  • No criminal record (reliability)
  • No incapacity, mental illness or drug addiction (personal suitability)
  • Knowledge of firearms regulations
  • safe handling of weapons and ammunition
  • Firearm shooting skills (may not be necessary if only weapons that cannot fire are collected)
  • Safe storage
• Permission can also be granted to those under 25 years of age if personal suitability is proven by an expert report.
• If you move: no re-registration of the permit is necessary
• Unauthorized handling of weapons and ammunition will result in a fine or imprisonment
• Responsible: Weapons Authority

Documents required

• Identity card or passport (copy)
• Proof of the cultural and historical value of the collection
• Proof of expertise
• Proof of storage, for example purchase agreement for a gun safe and/or photos of the gun safe and location
• If necessary, a specialist medical or psychological certificate about your mental suitability (if under 25 years old)

Procedure

You must apply for the red firearm ownership card from the responsible firearms authority. Submit the application along with the required documents.

The weapons authority will issue you the red weapon ownership card if you meet the necessary requirements.

The red weapon ownership card entitles you to purchase or possess firearms or ammunition. It can only be applied for by weapons collectors or weapons experts (see “Related topics”). Weapons collectors are people who can demonstrate that they need firearms or ammunition for a culturally and historically significant collection. A scientific and technical collection is also culturally and historically important.

It is recommended that you find out more about the gun law regulations before submitting your application.
To obtain permission to collect weapons and ammunition that require a permit, you must

• be at least 18 years old and
• Demonstrate your need
• the reliability of weapons law and
• have personal suitability,
• Your expertise in handling weapons and ammunition as well
• the safe storage of weapons and ammunition
