Service description

If you have inherited weapons and/or ammunition that require a permit, do not have a weapon ownership card and cannot demonstrate a need to own the inherited weapons, you must make the inherited weapons unusable or have them fitted with a state-of-the-art blocking system. Ammunition that requires authorization must be rendered unusable or handed over to an authorized person.
The locking system must be installed by a recognized firearms dealer or gunsmith. They will also provide you with proof of installation. The testing of conformity and approval of newly developed blocking systems in accordance with the Technical Guideline – Blocking Systems for Inherited Weapons – is carried out by the Physical-Technical Federal Institute (PTB) in Braunschweig. Further information, including the current status regarding the blocking systems available on the market, can be found on the website of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) under "Further information"
If there is no state-of-the-art blocking system for one or more inherited weapons on the market, you can apply for an exemption from the obligation to secure all inherited weapons with a state-of-the-art blocking system.
