Election nomination process
Here you will find information about the election nomination process as well as contact persons for questions from parties and candidates.
Important notes
Prerequisites
Nominations must be submitted in writing. The respective form (completeness and correctness of the documents) as well as deadline requirements must be observed.
Documents required
A nomination must contain:
- the election proposal itself (list of candidates)
- the candidates’ declarations of consent
- the candidates’ certificates of eligibility (or, in the case of Union citizens, an affirmation in lieu of oath if necessary)
- Minutes of the nomination meeting of the candidates
- an affidavit about the convening meeting
- If necessary, supporting signatures
Deadlines
Deadlines for submitting nominations
European elections: until the 83rd day before the election, 6 p.m.
Federal election: until the 69th day before the election, 6 p.m.
Citizens' election: until the 90th day before the election, 4 p.m.
District assembly election: until the 90th day before the election, 4 p.m.
Procedure & Fees
Procedure
First, the necessary documents or forms must be requested from the responsible federal, state, district or district electoral office. All required information must then be provided on these documents. An online portal can be used for this if necessary. In the last step, the complete election proposal must be submitted completely and within the deadline.
Processing time
The submitting person usually receives an initial assessment of admissibility when submitting on site.
The final decision is made by the electoral committee responsible for admission.

Legal remedies
The responsible committees decide whether to accept or not accept the nominations. It is possible to lodge a complaint against the decision with the responsible authority.
