Register as a neighborhood or household help in Hamburg

Prerequisites

neighborhood help

• Neighborhood helpers are of legal age.
• the person in need of care lives in the Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
• Neighborhood helpers do not live in the same household as the person in need of care.
• Neighborhood helpers are neither related to the second degree nor related by marriage to the person in need of care or the caring relatives.
• Neighborhood helpers look after a maximum of two people in need of care.
• Neighborhood helpers work on a voluntary basis and receive a maximum of 5 euros per hour as an expense allowance.
• Received expense allowances over 3,000 per year are taxable.

domestic help

• Employees are of legal age
• Employees do not live in the same household as the person in need of care.
• Employees are neither related to the second degree nor related by marriage to the person in need of care.
• The employment corresponds to the legal and social security regulations. A corresponding employment contract will be concluded.
• Below the upper limit for marginal employment, the employer must register the employee with the Minijob-Zentrale.
• Proof of participation in a first aid course.
• If the employees are not skilled workers, they can provide evidence of at least 10 hours of training for domestic help.

The service only includes registration. The confirmation of registration is a prerequisite for receiving the relief amount from your care insurance fund.

Procedure

• You submit the required documents by post to the Neighborhood Assistance Service Point.
• If you have any questions, the service center will also contact you by post.
• If all requirements are met, you will receive the registration confirmation by post
• In order to receive the relief amount, you must send the confirmation, possibly with additional documents, to the respective long-term care insurance fund. Please find out more directly from your nursing care fund.

Those in need of care at home are entitled to a relief amount of up to 125 euros per month (according to Section 45b of the Social Code XI). This relief amount can be used, among other things, to provide support in everyday life. One option for support could be, for example, a volunteer neighborhood helper. The relief amount can also be used for household help.

Domestic helpers must be employed in the household with an employment contract. This does not apply to neighborhood assistance.

If the registration requirements are met, the neighborhood or household helper will receive a registration confirmation to pass on to the person in need of care. With this confirmation and a receipt for amounts paid out, the person in need of care can apply to their care fund to have their expenses reimbursed (max. up to €125 per month).
