Service description

In Hamburg, the drinking water is obtained solely from groundwater. However, near-surface groundwater resources are only insufficiently protected against contamination. In order to secure the drinking water supply for the citizens in the long term, Hamburg has to protect these groundwater resources in a special way. One of the important measures in this context is the designation of water protection areas. Since 1990, six water protection areas have been established by the Senate. Another is in the planning stage.
