Feuerschiff ─ Light Ship
Feuerschiff ─ floating hotel
The impressive harbour is one of Hamburg's most characterising features. So why not spend a night on the water? The former lightship LV13 used to serve as a fire beacon along the English coast. Today, it is anchored right next to Hamburg's youngest landmark, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg music venue. You cannot only party on this special ship, but also sleep there ─ in the captain's cabin for instance.
The glaring red ship built in 1952 never sailed the the seven seas itself ─ its duty was to help other ships find their way to the nearest port.
For 36 years, LV13 was stationed along the English coastline, before it was replaced by a gigantic barrel in 1986. Seven years later, it was moored in Hamburg's harbour and turned into a floating hotel with a renowned jazz bar.
Every Monday night, the engine room is open for jam sessions. On Sunday mornings, the crew welcomes guests for some Frühschoppen (morning pints). Come on board and enjoy the jazz band with a drink in hand.
You can even celebrate your wedding here, if you like. For all information, visit the ship's website. www.das-feuerschiff.de (German only)
