Driving licence, change of name, changes in the conditions, customer center Hamburg-City (processing time: approx. 4 months)

Prerequisites

The application must be submitted in person. The registered main place of residence is Hamburg. The change of name must already have been completed on the identification document (identity card or passport), otherwise proof of the change must be submitted (e.g. marriage certificate, certificate of name change).

Documents required

• the current driver's license
• a valid identity card or passport and, if available, the electronic residence permit,
• 1 biometric passport photo 35 X 45 mm,
• Index card copy - only required if no EU driving license card has been issued and the last driving license was not issued in Hamburg (see also link)
• International driver's license, if available.

Additionally if you change your name:

• the marriage certificate or the certificate of a change of name

Additionally when changing the driver's license requirements:

• Documents proving that a condition is no longer required (e.g. a medical report).

An ophthalmological report according to Annex 6.2 FeV must be submitted for the deletion of a visual aid.

Please note

For all LBV locations as well as the KUZ Hamburg-City, an online appointment is absolutely necessary.
If you change your driving license, a new EU driving license card will always be issued.

Validity of driving licenses
The validity of the driving licenses issued after January 19, 2013 is limited to 15 years, after which a new issue is required. The driver's license remains valid - no new test is required. Driving licenses issued before January 19, 2013 must be exchanged by January 19, 2033 at the latest.

Procedure

The application is made on site. The LBV will deliver the new driving license by registered mail to the registration address of the person applying.

Processing time

The production time at Bundesdruckerei is around three to four weeks. The driver's license will be sent to you directly by Bundesdruckerei. The delivery takes place within 3 months.

Fees

The fees are EUR 43.20 and are based on the fee schedule for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

Additional fees apply for express orders.
