Detailed description
The Department for Consumer Protection, Trade and Environment is your central contact point for various concerns.
They issue permits for restaurants and other businesses requiring licenses. Applications for special permits for mobile businesses are processed here, and market dates are set. The department organizes the district's weekly markets and festivals. It monitors the hygiene of meat, poultry, fish, and other foodstuffs and consumer goods, conducts food inspections, and provides advice on food law.
Furthermore, it combats animal diseases and provides inspections and advice on matters of animal husbandry (including permit-required establishments) and animal welfare, including animal transport. For example, anyone wishing to take their dog on a trip abroad may, in certain cases, require an official veterinary health certificate, which is issued here. In addition, certificates are issued for national, intra-Community, and cross-border trade.
Finally, the environmental office is responsible for regional environmental issues. This includes monitoring drinking water supply systems, technical baths and bathing waters, pollution control, land remediation and soil protection. Furthermore, the office is responsible for protecting residential properties from misuse or defects that preclude residential use.
