Detailed description

The broadcasting fee is a monthly fee that every household in Germany pays to finance ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio.



The obligation to pay contributions does not apply if:

  • you move abroad,
  • You move in with someone who is already paying or
  • Give up your apartment.

In these cases, you can unsubscribe from the post.

Prerequisites

They pay broadcasting fees.


You are no longer required to pay contributions.

Documents required

To cancel your broadcasting fee, please submit the following documents depending on the reason:



Moving abroad:

  • Deregistration confirmation or other confirmation from the responsible registration authority that you no longer live in Germany

Moving in with a person who already pays:

  • Contribution number of the person you are moving in with and
  • Proof of shared household, for example: rental certificate or registration confirmation

Task of the apartment:

  • Deregistration confirmation from the residents’ registration office or
  • Proof of abandonment of the apartment, for example confirmation of termination from the landlord

Please note

Your obligation to pay contributions ends at the end of the month in which you no longer use the apartment. It is important that your obligation to pay contributions ends at the end of the month in which you notified us of this at the earliest.

Deadlines

Cancel your broadcasting license fee payments as soon as possible after you are no longer required to pay the fee.

Procedure

  • You can cancel your broadcasting license fee payment electronically using the online service provided by the Contribution Service.
  • Alternatively, you can print out and fill out the cancellation form.
  • In any case, please provide your contribution number so that the deregistration can be assigned to your contribution account.
  • Please attach all required documents to your deregistration.
  • Send the cancellation to the responsible office.
  • The responsible authority records and checks your deregistration and your documents. If necessary, it will request further documents or information from you.
  • If necessary, your deregistration data will be compared with your registration data at the residents' registration office.
  • You will receive a written confirmation.
  • The responsible body will archive your contribution data in accordance with the statutory retention periods. After this period has expired, your data will be deleted.

Processing time

Processing usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.
