As a student of human medicine, you must complete four one-month internships before registering for the second part of the medical examination.

Detailed description

Students of human medicine must complete four internships before the second part of the medical examination.
The internship is completed:
1. for a period of one month in an outpatient healthcare facility,
which is managed by a doctor or a suitable medical practice,
2. for a period of one month in a hospital or in an inpatient
Rehabilitation facility,
3. for a period of one month in a primary care facility and
4. for a period of one month in one of the places mentioned in numbers 1 to 3 or in another
appropriate establishment, including public health establishment, in which medical activities are carried out.

For students in the regular course of study, the internship must be completed during the class-free periods between the first and second sections of the medical examination.

By way of derogation from this, students of the model study programme can begin their internship during the teaching-free periods, provided that the examinations and performance assessments prescribed for the first two semesters as well as the nursing service have been successfully completed.
When registering for the second part of the medical examination, appropriate proof from the university of module completion A1-D1 must be submitted.

Please note

An internship completed abroad (according to Section 7 Paragraph 4 of the ÄApprO) can be credited if it was completed in an outpatient medical care facility or in a hospital.
If the internship was completed in a medical practice, proof must be provided to the local health authority / medical association / association of statutory health insurance physicians that this doctor was permitted to set up his or her own practice.
Proof of an internship completed abroad is provided on the attached form “Certificate concerning practical clinical elective”. The training doctor must also enter the activities carried out in detail in English or German.
Certificates and/or stamps of the institution in another language must be translated by a sworn interpreter in Germany.

An internship in a primary care facility according to Section 7 Paragraph 3 No. 3 ÄApprO cannot be completed abroad.

Legal remedies
