Traineeship General information

Prerequisites

• You are enrolled as a medical student at a university.
• You should already have completed certain sections of your studies so that you have sufficient basic knowledge.

Please note

Internships in the emergency services, in emergency practices of the statutory health insurance emergency service or in vaccination centers are not recognized.

If you have completed a clinical internship abroad, you can have it recognized under certain conditions. Further information can be found in the "Links" section.

Deadlines

You must complete your internship during the non-teaching periods between the first and second sections of the medical examination.




If you are studying in the model study program, you can sometimes start earlier if you have already successfully completed the required exams, performance assessments and nursing service.

Procedure

• You will complete 4 internships, each of which will last one month in
  • an outpatient facility or doctor's office under medical supervision
  • a hospital or inpatient rehabilitation facility
  • the practice of a licensed general practitioner who participates in the general practitioner care system
  • one of the above-mentioned establishments or in another appropriate establishment, for example a laboratory, pathology, forensic medicine or public health service.
• You will provide proof of your internship when registering for your medical examination using the form “Certificate of Activity as a Famulus”.
