Service description

The Climate Control Center coordinates the Hamburg Senate's climate policy. She is responsible for the strategic and conceptual development of the Senate's overall climate policy strategy (Hamburg Climate Plan) and its operationalization in concrete measures, including the allocation of funds from the central Hamburg Climate Plan program. It also carries out the measures and financial controlling as well as the CO2 monitoring for the Hamburg climate activities.

The new Hamburg climate plan describes a strategy that combines climate protection with adaptation to climate change. The implementation of the concept of developing Hamburg into a Climate Smart City takes place in the strategic clusters and fields of action, such as urban development, buildings, energy, mobility, water management and inland flood protection, education and research. Timely adaptation to climate change through networking of the measures, regular reporting and long-term monitoring of climate change, its effects and the measures taken (climate impact monitoring) is carried out by the Climate Control Center.

She is also responsible for the fundamental issues of climate policy at the state, federal and EU level as well as in the Hamburg metropolitan region. Its task is to communicate the city's climate issues and to network such as cooperation with city stakeholders, coordination of the voluntary commitment of the industry to corporate CO2 reductions and cooperation with public companies on climate protection and adaptation.

In future, the Climate Council will advise the Senate as an independent body on the implementation of the Hamburg Climate Protection Act and the Hamburg Climate Plan.
The committee consists of 15 voting members from various scientific fields.
