License plate, replacement due to loss or theft

Prerequisites

The replacement license plates can only be requested from the Landesbetrieb Verkehr (LBV) if the vehicle is registered in Hamburg. It must also have a valid general inspection.

Documents required

The following documents must be available for the application:

• a valid identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
• the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration)
• the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• proof of the valid general inspection (HU)
• in the event of loss , an oath insurance is required. Please note the information under "To be observed"!
• a theft report is required in the event of theft
• if applicable, the remaining license plate if only one is lost
• the appointment confirmation

• the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with the legible color copy of the identity of the principal. Note: The color copy is to be provided with the note "COPY".
• the authorized representative's ID in the original
• Note the notes on affirmation on oath instead of under the point important!

Companies or associations must also submit the following documents:

• proof of company / association (for example, an extract from the commercial register or an extract from the association's register)
• the power of attorney with the legible color copy of the ID of the person authorized to act according to the company / association register records
• the authorized representative's ID in the original

Please note

Affidavit in the event of loss

As a rule, an oath insurance must be requested (for a fee). To do this, you must appear in person. Representation by proxy is not possible.

Theft notification
If the license plates have been stolen, a report must be presented to the police.

Appointment booking
Appointments are booked via the LBV. Proceed as follows here:
1. Visit the website for booking an appointment (see below) and select under the service group Approval, private customers the service Theft of license plates in the event of theft or loss of license plates in the event of loss.
2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and your e-mail address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

Please bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive with you to the appointment.

Fees

In addition to the chargeable purchase of license plates, fees of EUR 26.60 to EUR 70.00 are incurred for the issuance of replacement license plates. The exact amount of the fee can only be determined after reviewing the complete documents. In addition, there may be costs of EUR 30.70 for the insurance in lieu of oath. The basis for the fee level is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
