Keeping dangerous animals, permit

Detailed description

The private keeping of dangerous animals requires approval in accordance with the regulations of the Hamburg Dangerous Animal Act. The animals that require a permit include various scorpions and spider species, armored lizards, lizards, giant and poisonous snakes, wolves, mixed wolves and wild dogs, big cats and pumas, bears and various large ape species.

The issuing of the permit is subject to a fee for the owners.

 

Information

Documents required

The written, informal application must contain information about the species, number, age, appearance (with photo) and sex of the animals. Evidence of reliability as well as sufficient knowledge of keeping and care and of safe and animal welfare-friendly keeping and accommodation of the animals appropriate to the hazard potential must be provided and a competent person must be named in writing and a certificate of good conduct presented in the event of a possible prevention. If this evidence is not sufficient, the responsible office for consumer protection, trade and the environment can request additional evidence.

Fees

The fees are determined according to general calculation criteria in accordance with Section 6 of the Fee Schedule for Public Consumer Protection (according to time spent). A fixed amount cannot be specified.
