Enter name change or changes in the requirements on your driving license

Prerequisites

• You submit your application in person.
• You have your main residence in Hamburg.
• Your name change has already been completed in your identification documents (identity card or passport).

Documents required

• the current driver's license
• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current registration confirmation showing the new name,
• 1 biometric passport photo 35 x 45 mm - not older than 1 year
• Driving licence extract - only required if no EU card driving licence has yet been issued and the last driving licence was not issued in Hamburg (see also link)
• International driving licence, if available.
• Appointment confirmation

Additionally, in case of a name change:

• the marriage certificate or the name change certificate

Additionally, in case of changes to the driving licence conditions:

• Documents proving that a condition is no longer required (for example, a medical report).
  • To have a visual aid removed from the driving licence regulations, an ophthalmological report according to Annex 6.2 of the German Driving Licence Regulations (FeV) must be submitted.

Deadlines

The validity of driving licenses issued after January 19, 2013, is limited to 15 years; after that, you must apply for a new driving license. Your driving license remains valid; no new test is required. Driving licenses issued before January 19, 2013, must be exchanged by January 19, 2033, at the latest.

Procedure

• You book an appointment online.
  • On our website for booking appointments, select the category "Driving license"
  • Book the appointment "Change of driving licence data"
  • You will receive an email. Confirm your reserved appointment via the link in the email.
• Please bring all necessary documents and your appointment confirmation to your appointment at the LBV.
• Scan the QR code from your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
• Please take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your number.
• Your request is being processed.
• Once manufactured, your new driver's license will be sent to your home by registered mail.

Processing time

The production time at the Federal Printing Office is approximately 3-4 weeks. The driver's license will be sent to you directly from the Federal Printing Office. Express processing at the Federal Printing Office takes 3 business days.

Fees

The fee is EUR 44.70 and is based on the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt). Additional fees apply for express orders.
