Driver's license, truck classes (C, C1, C1E, CE)

Prerequisites

The application can only be made by persons

• who have their main residence in Hamburg and
• have reached the minimum age for classes C and CE of 21 years (exceptions apply in connection with the qualification as a professional driver; please inquire about this personally at the locations in the middle and north of the LBV)

In all cases, however, the application can only be submitted a maximum of six months before the minimum age is reached.

Documents required

The originals of the following documents must be submitted for both the initial application and the extension:

• a valid identity card or passport with a current confirmation of registration
• a biometric passport photo 35 x 45 millimeters
• an ophthalmological report in accordance with Annex 6 of the Driving License Ordinance (FeV) is not older than two years
• a medical report in accordance with Annex 5.1 FeV is not older than one year
• If necessary, proof of professional driver qualification if the driver's license is to be used for the commercial transport of goods
• the existing EU driving license card in the event of an extension or extension
• in the case of the first application and, if applicable, in the case of an extension , additional proof of participation in the first-aid training course

Please note

Validity of the driving license
The driver's license for the truck classes is usually valid for five years. It should be renewed in good time (four to six weeks before the expiry date). For the extension you need the same documents as for the first application (see documents).

Validity of driving licenses
All driving licenses of class 3 (now C1E) that were issued up to 01.01.1999 are valid for an unlimited period.
Class C1E driving licenses issued between 01.01.1999 and 27.12.2016 are limited to the age of 50.
The driving licenses issued from December 28, 2016 are only valid for five years.
If a driving license has been withdrawn, the dates of the new issue apply for the period of validity.
If you want to regain your driving license after its expiry, you have to apply for a new driving license.

The documents for the initial application and the extension must be submitted to the Landesbetrieb Verkehr (LBV).

Appointment booking
Appointments are booked via the LBV. Proceed as follows here:
1. Visit the website for booking an appointment (see link below) and select the service extension C / CE under the service group Driver's license.
2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and your e-mail address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

Please bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive with you to the appointment.

Deadlines

Deadline extension


C-class driving licenses that expired between September 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021 will be automatically extended by 10 months .


The deadlines that have already been extended once without a new expert opinion and expire between September 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021 are considered to be extended by a further 6 months or until July 1st, 2021 , whichever is the later.

Processing time

The processing time is four to six weeks. If an express driver's license is requested, it will be delivered after 3 working days. A fee of currently 26.40 EUR applies.

Fees

Applying for a truck driver's license costs between EUR 40.60 and EUR 69.20. The exact amount depends on the requested class and can only be specifically determined on the basis of the complete documents. The basis for the fee level is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
