Exchange driver's license, service driver's license

As long as the driver's license is still valid, service driver's licenses can be exchanged for a civilian driver's license, which then also allows vehicles to be driven in civil traffic. This exchange mainly concerns the driver's licenses from the Bundeswehr.

Important notes

Prerequisites

The application can only be submitted to the Landesbetrieb Verkehr (LBV) if the applicant's main residence is in Hamburg.

Documents required

The following documents must be available for the application:

a valid identity card or passport with a current registration certificate
a biometric passport photo 35 x 45 millimeters
the service driver's license in the original
if available, the original civilian driver's license
the appointment confirmation

If the driver's license is not only to be exchanged but also extended at the same time, the requirements and documents for the following additional services must also be observed:

Extend driver's license, bus classes (classes D, D1, DE, D1E)
Extend driver's license, truck classes (classes C, C1, CE, C1E).

Please note

Only the LBV-Mitte and LBV-Nord locations are responsible for the exchange. The application must be made in person, you will need an appointment for this.

Appointment booking
Appointments are booked via the LBV. Proceed as follows here:
1. Visit the website for booking an appointment (see link below) and select the service under the driver's license service group Service driver's license description .
2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and your e-mail address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

Please bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive with you to the appointment.
