Request simple information from the population register

Prerequisites

• You provide information that allows the person you are looking for to be clearly identified. This means that you already have data about the person in question (usually first and last name, date of birth, gender, or last known address).
• For commercial inquiries, please also state the intended use of the data.
• If you want to apply for a simple registration information online, you need a Service Account Plus.

Documents required

• Proof of identity of the person searching
• First and last name of the person sought and
• previous address or date of birth of the person being sought

Please note

Whether the responsible authority provides you with information is at their sole discretion. Information from the residents' register will not be provided if a restriction on information has been entered in the residents' register or if the registration authority has reason to believe that this could pose a threat to the legitimate interests of the person concerned or another person.

The online service searches exclusively in the current population register. Records of individuals who have not been registered in Hamburg for more than five years are moved to the historical database (archive) and cannot be found online. The online service generates a neutral response for a fee. Inquiries about such records can only be submitted in writing to a Hamburg Service location or the residents' register (einwohnerregister@hamburgservice.de).

Procedure

Apply for a simple registration information online:

• If you haven't already done so, set up a Service Account Plus.
  • If the online function is already activated on your identity card, you can set up the Service Account Plus using an ID app or a card reader.
  • If you do not have an identity card with online functionality, first register with a simple service account and then go in person to a Hamburg Service location once, where, upon presentation of another identification document (e.g. your passport), your service account will be upgraded to a Service Account Plus.

• You enter all data into the online service and upload the documents.
• You pay the lower online fee.
• You can retrieve the registration information immediately in the portal mailbox of the online service.

Apply for the registration information in person.

• You can make an appointment online or by calling 115.
• Please bring all necessary documents with you to the appointment.
• You pay the full fee.
• You will receive the registration information by post.

You can access the registration information online immediately.


Processing your request on site may take up to 2 weeks.
