Detailed description
A high level of data protection is a sign of a citizen-friendly and modern administration. Citizens have the legitimate expectation that the authorities of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg will respect their personal rights and thus also their right to informational self-determination in their day-to-day administrative work. The responsibility for data protection in a public body lies with the management of the body. All employees are responsible for data protection in their own area of responsibility. The management ensures that the data protection regulations are observed in the public body.
The data protection officer appointed for a public body supports and monitors the public body in the implementation of data protection regulations. Official data protection officers, on the other hand, do not decide for themselves how certain procedures are to be carried out and cannot formally enforce their demands. Rather, they help with self-control. You can offer concentrated specialist knowledge in the cross-sectional area of data protection, be the contact for management and employees and act as a "motor" to drive data protection forward. The appointment of data protection officers is therefore not only an obligation, but above all an opportunity.
