If you want to drive an unregistered vehicle on public roads to a limited extent, you must apply for an exemption permit.

Detailed description

To be allowed to drive an unregistered vehicle on public roads to a limited extent, you must apply for an exemption. This is the case, for example, if a public road runs through a company's premises.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You own a vehicle that is not registered for road traffic.
  • Your vehicle is intended to be used on public roads to a limited extent and for a specific reason.

Documents required

  • Informal signed application with detailed justification as to why and in what form the vehicle is to be used on public roads
  • Report from an officially recognized expert
  • Map material (route sketch) showing the route you want to take with the vehicle

Please note

Before an exemption can be granted, approval from the local police department is required. This approval is obtained by the State Traffic Authority.


You may only use the vehicle for the purpose specified in the exemption permit.

Deadlines

The exemption is issued for a maximum of 1 year.

  • You submit all required documents to the LBV by post or in person.
  • Your documents will be reviewed.
  • You will be informed of the decision in writing.

The processing time depends on the individual case.
