Due to state treaties between the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and other federal states, the Hamburg Ship Register is also responsible for the following areas: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Hesse.

The Minden District Court maintains the ship register for inland vessels based in the Hessian part of the Weser river basin, including the Werra and Fulda rivers, and the shipbuilding register for shipbuilding works whose construction site is located in the Hessian part of the same river basin.
