An important task of public health officers is to carry out medical examinations and assessments and to prepare reports, certificates and attestations on these.



Many legal provisions explicitly require a medical examination by a public health officer. One reason for this is that public health officers are distinguished by their particular independence and their specialized expertise in the field of public administration. They generally act on behalf of other authorities or in accordance with their statutory duties.

Public medical officers only work on the basis of statutory regulations.

Documents required

  • Identity card,
  • Client's requisition form,
  • current medical findings (treatment reports, laboratory results, medical certificates, notices from the social welfare office, etc.)

Examinations are only possible by prior appointment. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, it is essential to cancel it in a timely manner.



Clients are usually government offices, authorities and similar institutions.


In individual cases, private individuals can also contact the public health service directly.


An appointment for an examination is usually only granted upon receipt of a written request for examination.


The medical records brought along and collected during the examination remain at the health department and are subject to the usual confidentiality obligations.


The client receives an objective medical report. For specific issues, e.g., in the field of psychiatry, additional physicians can be consulted.
