An important task of the medical officer is to carry out medical examinations and assessments and to issue reports, certificates and attestations.
In many legal regulations, an official medical examination is expressly required. One of the reasons for this is that public officials are distinguished by their particular independence and their special additional expertise in the field of public administration. As a rule, they work on behalf of other authorities or in accordance with their statutory duties.
Examples of official medical activities and examinations on behalf of authorities :
- Recruitment examinations of applicants for the public service
- Determination of the health suitability for the exercise of certain professions
- Civil servants' capacity to serve
- Ability to work of employees in the public service
- Assessments according to SGB XII
- Determination of the medical necessity of remedies and aids as well as of
- Medical and sanatorium cures for public service employees
Examples of official medical activities and examinations on behalf of private individuals:
- Students: Determination of the inability to take the exam for health reasons
- Students: Extension of the submission deadline for the thesis due to illness
- Certificate of the need for a cure for the tax office

Public medical officers only work on the basis of statutory regulations.

Identity card, request form from the client, current medical findings (treatment reports, laboratory findings, EKG, notifications from the pension office, etc.)
