Detailed description
The Waste Management Department develops the waste management plans for Hamburg and is ministerially responsible for municipal and private waste management in Hamburg. It is responsible for the technical management of Hamburg's municipal cleaning service with the following areas of responsibility:
- municipal waste disposal,
- road cleaning and winter service as well as
- public toilets
It also carries out central enforcement tasks in the areas of national and international verification procedures, ship disposal and the approval and monitoring of waste disposal facilities.
The Waste Management Department represents the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in the Federal and State Working Group on Waste (LAGA) and in other committees and working groups. It is the contact point for citizens and companies in all questions relating to waste management.
