Medical care

Prerequisites

Medical care is only granted to officers of the police and fire brigade who are actively employed.

General information on health care:

• Medical care is not a statutory health insurance scheme, but falls under the other cost carriers and is equivalent to a substitute health insurance scheme.
• Those entitled to medical care are not private patients.
• Those entitled to health care have a free choice of doctor (doctors with statutory health insurance approval).
• Medical care is provided as a benefit in kind. Those entitled to medical care receive an insurance card for this purpose.
• Those entitled to medical care are exempt from all co-payments provided for those with statutory insurance. Medication, physiotherapy, medical aids, hospital stays, health cures, etc. are free of co-payments (except for additional cost agreements).
• Medical care is not subject to budgeting. The only decisive factor is medical necessity.
• Health care is not family insurance.
• There is no insurance cover abroad (for this purpose, taking out international health insurance is recommended).
