Please note
Anglers residing in Hamburg who have taken the examination for a fishing license before January 1st, 2020 in a federal state other than Hamburg must be issued a fishing license. Only if examinations are taken after January 1st, 2020, Hamburgers must have passed the fishing examination according to the Hamburg Fisheries and Angling Act.
Fishing licenses for people without permanent residence in Germany (tourists) and professional fishermen are issued by the Hamburg Authority for Economics, Transport and Innovation (BWVI) as the highest fishing authority (see link).
Persons registered in other German federal states apply for the fishing license at their place of residence. The fishing licenses of the other German federal states are recognized in Hamburg.
In Hamburg the minimum age is 12 years to apply for a fishing license. The fishing license is valid for all age groups. At the age of 18, the photo must be renewed. Children up to the age of 15 do not need a fishing license but may only fish under the supervision of an adult fishing license holder.
The Angelsport-Verband Hamburg eV (see link) provides information on waters that are authorized for fishing.
The fishing license can only be applied for in person, as it is a photo ID that must be signed by the holder.
