Prerequisites
You must have a valid permit to purchase and own the weapons to be entered in the European Firearms Pass (for example, a hunting license or firearm ownership card)
Documents required
- Identity card or passport (copy)
- Weapons ownership card (WBK) or hunting license
- current passport photo (not older than 1 year, at least 45 x 35 millimeters in size, with a light background)
Please note
You are allowed to take ammunition for registered weapons, but only as much as you are likely to need. Hunters usually need less ammunition than sport shooters.
Not every weapon registered in your passport automatically allows you to take it abroad. You must follow the rules of the country you are visiting and possibly the countries you are travelling through. Obtain the necessary permits in advance. Before you travel, find out about the gun laws in each country.
When you travel, you must not only have the European Firearms Pass with you, but also your ID card and the firearms ownership card on which your weapons are registered. It is also advisable to take an invitation from the hunting club or your hunting license with you if you are taking part in a shooting competition.
The European Firearms Pass does not allow the permanent export of weapons or ammunition abroad. You need other permits for this.
To facilitate the processing of your application, you can use the National Weapons Register identification numbers (NWR-ID):
- Use your personal NWR ID (for example P- or F-NWR-ID) for personal information.
- Use the permit NWR ID (E-NWR ID) for information on firearms permits.
- The weapon or weapon part NWR ID (e.g. W- or T-NWR-ID) is relevant for information on weapons or weapon parts.
You can obtain the corresponding NWR IDs by submitting an application to the responsible weapons authority.
Deadlines
The passport is valid for 5 years and can be extended twice for a further 5 years upon request.
