Apply for an extension of your rental car permit

Prerequisites

You have a valid rental car license.

You are personally reliable.

You can demonstrate sufficient financial capacity.

You can prove your professional suitability, for example in the form of a certificate of professional competence.

The new vehicles for which the permit is to be extended are roadworthy.

Documents required

• Valid permit
• Application for extension of rental car permit with:
  • Surname, first name of the applicant
  • residence and place of business
  • birthday, place of birth
  • Number of vehicles, vehicle type and capacity of the vehicles used
• equity certificate / additional certificate
• Certificate of clearance (from the company, the legal representative and the person appointed to manage the business / traffic management):
  • the tax office
  • the community
  • the social insurance carrier and the professional association
• certificate of good conduct
• For companies: Extract from the Central Trade Register
• Extract from the Driving Aptitude Register (FAER)

General documents:

• Vehicle list, if applicable rental vehicles with rental contract or leasing list
• Proof of liability insurance for rental cars including risk code (WKZ)
• Proof of installation of an alarm system or special permit
• Proof of installation of an odometer
• Business registration, if not already available to the authorities

Please note

You submit your application to the transport authority of the respective independent city or district.

Deadlines only begin to run when an application ready for a decision is submitted.

The processing time of your application may depend, among other things, on whether all relevant documents have been submitted or whether additional documents are required.

You must provide the necessary clearance certificates from the tax office, the municipality and the social insurance provider and the professional association.

The clearance certificates are required by the company, the legal representative and the person appointed to manage the business/traffic management.

Deadlines

The clearance certificates from the tax office, the municipality and the social insurance provider and the professional association must not be older than 3 months.


Your proof of equity certificate / additional certificate must not be older than 3 months.


If your application is complete, a decision will be made within 3 months.


The deadline can be extended by 3 months if necessary.

Procedure

Submit an application to your local transport authority and attach all required documents to the application.

The authority will examine your application and carry out the necessary hearing procedures.

You will receive a notification of the decision to extend your rental car permit. If applicable, you will be given the permit certificate(s).

Processing time

Processing times may vary between the relevant transport authorities.

Fees

The amount of the fees depends on the number of vehicles and the duration of the permit.
