You must apply for a permit for any measure that entails a restriction or special use of public traffic space.

Detailed description

If you want to restrict public traffic space or use it for special purposes, you need a permit. This applies, for example, to road construction work, but also to setting up scaffolding, storing building materials or holding events. Before you start work, you must apply to the responsible authority for a traffic order (permission to restrict traffic). A traffic order is not only required if the road is closed, but also if the work affects cycle paths or footpaths. As part of the process, the responsible authority determines which barriers and signs you may need to set up and how traffic is to be regulated or diverted.

You demonstrate a legitimate interest.
They do not disproportionately restrict the safety and ease of traffic or public use.
You have the certificate “Information sheet on the framework conditions for the specialist knowledge required for traffic safety at road work sites” (MVAS).

Please note

If the traffic space restriction you are requesting is a work site, you must appoint a site manager.
If the measure takes longer than the period specified in your application, you must apply for an extension before the end of the approved period.
The applicant must inform the public about the measure.

You submit the application in writing, electronically or via the online service and provide the required documents.
The responsible body will examine your application and, if necessary, involve other bodies.
After the application has been reviewed, you will receive a notice of approval or rejection. The approval notice contains the traffic law order for you. You can now carry out the measure within the framework of the traffic law order.

Processing time

You should expect processing to take approximately 2 weeks. The processing time for extensive measures is usually longer.

30.30 EUR - 200.60 EUR

The fee varies depending on the duration and scope of the permit.
