Detailed description

Hazardous and pollutant waste consists of waste materials that cannot be disposed of with regular household waste. They contain substances that pose a risk to health or have a harmful effect on the environment.


You can dispose of these hazardous and problem waste materials through Hamburg's municipal waste management service. Recycling centers, a collection service, or mobile hazardous waste collection are available for this purpose.

You want to dispose of problematic or hazardous materials from your private household.

Please note

You can dispose of the following via the mobile hazardous waste collection service or the on-site service:

  • Fluorescent tubes, energy-saving lamps, LED lamps
  • thermometer
  • Paint and varnish residues, rust inhibitors, acids, alkalis, stains, plant and wood preservatives, stain removers and impregnating agents, adhesives, shoe polishes and waxes
  • Thinners and solvents such as acetone, turpentine, gasoline and nitro thinner, brake fluid
  • Weed and pest control products
  • Chemicals, poisons and salts, for example from private photo labs and experiment kits
  • Aerosol cans and other containers with residues of the aforementioned waste types

The following hazardous materials are only accepted by Hamburg's waste management department at recycling centers:

  • Car batteries
  • Flower boxes made of Eternit. These should be delivered moistened and wrapped in tear-resistant foil.

They should dispose of the hazardous materials in closed, labeled, and shatterproof containers. Original packaging is best.
