Detailed description
The responsible youth welfare office maintains a custody register for children of parents who are not married to each other. Entries are made in this custody register if:
- Declarations of care are made,
- custody has been transferred in whole or in part jointly due to a final court decision
- custody has been withdrawn in whole or in part from the mother or transferred to the father by virtue of a final court decision.
As a mother who is not married to the father of your child, or was not married at the time of birth, you can receive a certificate stating the extent to which you have parental responsibility for your child. If you have sole custody, you will receive what is known as a negative certificate.
