If you have a child during a voyage on a seagoing vessel that is entitled to fly the federal flag, the birth must be certified at the registry office I in Berlin. The ship's commander accepts the notification of the birth from a parent who has custody. If the parents are prevented from doing so, the report may also be made by a person who was present at the birth.

- Birth of a child on a German seagoing vessel, regardless of nationality
Documents required
- in married parents
- Parents' birth certificates, if necessary with translation, legalization or apostille
- Marriage certificate or a certified printout from the marriage register, possibly with a translation, legalization or apostille
- for unmarried parents
- Mother's birth certificate, if necessary with translation, legalization or apostille
- if paternity has already been established:
- Declaration of acknowledgment of paternity and declaration of consent from the mother
- father's birth certificate
- if applicable, the declaration of concern
- everything with translation, legalization or apostille if necessary
- Identity card, passport or a recognized passport replacement document of the parents
- A marriage certificate and proof of the dissolution of the marriage must also be submitted if the marriage is now divorced or the husband has died within 300 days of the birth of the child.

- You, the parent with custody or - if you are unable to do so - another person who was present at the birth, notify the ship's commander of the birth.
- The required documents should be attached or handed in at the earliest opportunity to the registry office I in Berlin. Ordered certificates can be sent.
Processing time
The certification takes place after receipt of the notification and all necessary documents at the registry office I in Berlin.

Fees
The certification in the birth register of the registry office I in Berlin is free of charge.
Fees are charged for the issuance of a birth certificate in accordance with Berlin state law. A certificate currently costs EUR 12.00, each additional certificate of the same type ordered at the same time costs EUR 6.00.
