Apply for a change of address in your passport

Prerequisites

• You have a valid passport
• You have already registered with your new address at your responsible location for residents' affairs.
• You have an official confirmation of registration

Documents required

• Valid passport
• Current official confirmation of registration

Please note

You only need to have the address on the passport changed if your place of residence has changed.

Deadlines

You must have your new place of residence changed in your passport immediately after your change of address or change it yourself online

Procedure

If you apply for a change of address in person:

• You report in person to the office responsible for you for resident affairs.
• You present your valid passport and your official confirmation of registration.
• Hamburg Service will then stick an official address sticker with your new place of residence over the old place of residence in your passport.
• You may authorize another person in writing to make your change of address on your passport at your Residents Office.

When applying for a change of address online:

• You call up the online service.
• You log in to the online service with your user account.
• You enter all the required data online.
• Hamburg Service will then send you an address label with your new place of residence by post.
• You stick the address label with your new place of residence over the old place of residence in your passport.

Processing time

There is no statutory processing time.
