Detailed description

The profession of medical technologist for functional diagnostics is regulated in Germany. This means that in order to work as a medical technologist for functional diagnostics in Germany, you need a state permit. With the permit, you can use the job title “medical technologist for functional diagnostics” and work in the profession.
Even if you have a professional qualification from the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you can still obtain state permission from the relevant authority in Germany. To obtain permission, you must have your foreign professional qualification recognized.
During the recognition process, the responsible body compares your professional qualification from abroad with the German professional qualification and checks their equivalence. The equivalence of the professional qualification is an important prerequisite for the granting of state permission.
In addition to the equivalence of your professional qualifications, you must also meet other requirements for the permit to be issued. Other requirements include, for example, sufficient German language skills and health suitability.
If your professional qualification does not come from the EU, EEA or Switzerland, different rules apply.

Prerequisites

  • You have successfully completed training as a medical technologist for functional diagnostics or medical technologist for functional diagnostics in the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland and are entitled to work there independently as a medical technologist for functional diagnostics or medical technologist for functional diagnostics to work.
  • You want to work in Germany as a medical technologist for functional diagnostics or medical technologist for functional diagnostics.
  • Personal Suitability: You are reliable to work as a Functional Diagnostic Medical Technologist and have no criminal record.
  • Medical suitability: You can work mentally and physically as a Medical Technologist for Functional Diagnostics or Medical Technologist for Functional Diagnostics.
  • You have German language skills at the required language level. This is usually language level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

equivalence test
The competent authority will then check whether you meet all the requirements. An important prerequisite is the equivalence of your professional qualification. The competent authority compares your professional qualification from abroad with the German professional qualification as a medical technologist for functional diagnostics or medical technologist for functional diagnostics. The professional qualification is equivalent if there are no significant differences between your foreign professional qualification and the German professional qualification.

Possible results of the test
If there is equivalence, submit proof of your health, language and personal suitability (instruction sheet).

If there is no equivalence, you will complete an adjustment measure in the form of an aptitude test or an adjustment course. You will receive further information from us on this.

at least EUR 225, depending on the effort up to EUR 600 plus EUR 42 for the certificate

Legal remedies

You can take legal action against the decision of the responsible authority within a certain period of time (for example, lodge an objection). The decision will then be reviewed.
